Help Wanted

5 things you can do today:

  1. Talk to your kids about safety. Let them know they are allowed to defend themselves, that you trust their instincts, and remind them that a safe adult will never ask a kid for help, will never try to get them to come closer, get in the car, or keep a secret.

  2. Contact your local legislators and let them know that reasonable legislation to protect children from predators is a priority for you. Make a list of family-oriented businesses you frequent, and spend some time finding out what security policies they have.

  3. Go to your PTA or other parenting organization, and encourage them to take a look at the Take 25 program from NCMEC. If we all find 'teachable moments' in our daily lives to educate children about personal safety, we may be able to curb the horrifying numbers of children that are preyed upon each year.

  4. Secure your computers! Check out these quick tips from NetSmartz, and talk to your kids about it. Most importantly - don't send your kids online alone. Show them, guide them, and monitor them!

  5. Explore our Links & Tools page. There’s a LOT of good information there.
