Support Needed for Surrogate Stalker Legislation!

The Surrogate Stalker Bill (AB534) which some of you may remember as the "anti-Jack McClellan legislation" is being heard tomorrow morning in Sacramento before the Senate Public Safety Committee.

It is urgent that the committee understand that California parents support this legislation. Attached is a sample draft of a letter of support that you can download, attach and sign or you are welcome to draft a letter of your own. Below are links and addresses for you to send your messages of support.

This is a non-partisan issue and Mothers Against Sexual Predators feels it is of the utmost importance for the safeguarding of California children. Please take a moment of your time and express your support of this issue. It will make a difference.

Safety Starts at Home

Educate children to the risks of their world.
When children are toddlers at home, families teach kids to avoid unsafe environments and secure them from detergents, sharp edges, etc. When they explore out of the home, via play dates, preschool, and parks, have discussions about the risks present in those environments, too. Nothing is as effective for preventative safety as open communication about real risk.

Policy is an incredibly effective tool for individuals, families, and organizations.
Does your community swimming pool keep a notebook of registered offenders living in the area? Do they have a policy in place to stop people from photographing your children? Don't you think they should? Parks, malls, public areas: they're there in the hopes that you'll visit; let them know what you need to feel secure. Or let us know, and we'll tell them.

Legislate to ensure that consequences are in place when education and policy fail.
If society can articulate its objection to a behavior, and if no legitimate civil liberties are infringed, then create legislation. Remember, however, that criminals do not care about law, they care about what they can get away with.
